April 1999 Race Report

The first race of the season and a number of teams had invested in new chassis. Some, including us, stayed with last year's equipment. There were also a number of new teams racing making the entry one of the biggest for an endurance race at PF. Their policy of reducing the entry fee and discounting tyres seemed have worked.

With 28 teams on the grid qualifying was always going to be a problem, particularly as this was the first time some of us had driven on the revised circuit in anger. Boyes Lane took pole position, and we ended up seventh, which wasn't fantastic but also wasn't too bad.

Although the weather was cool all day, it did not rain, and the sun even shone occasionally. The lead changed a number of times during the race, with Boyes Lane the early race leaders. As the race progressed, Wackey Racers took to the front chased hard by Progem and ourselves. with a few laps to go, we were closing in on Progem but both of us were losing ground to Wackey Racers.

We managed to take second place a few laps before the end, finishing a mere 2 1/2 seconds ahead of Progem. Wackey Racers won by just over a lap.
